Memories of Competitive Public

It felt good to know that at any given time for several years, no matter what we were doing their were 16 guys slugging it out on a ET server.
Ofcourse you had to be fairly decent to avoid being kicked in this server. Revive, don't team kill, keep moving, no blocking, aim straight, do the objective!
It was the place to be for displays of mercenery teamwork, a randomised hall of fame for well known names, and perhaps for some a form of escape.
The old faces have all but gone, and with them thecommunity spirit has greatly diminished. We all see this change and wish that this was not so but what of new players, new clans, and renewed interest?
New players may come and hold tight to their interest but they encounter obstacles that once were not present. Public is the home of new blood, every bit as much as IRC plays home to elitists. But what of it?
If you were new to this game and could appreciate the element of competition involved despite its aging engine, how would you learn? You would try it out on public and advance your skill in the available servers all of the time enjoying what your doing. But what happens when you jump to the more competive 8v8 etpro servers?
We see an ugly community, purely elitist, verbally abusive, not interested in teamplay, objectives... not even fun. Why play any further?
We abided by the strict public rules because we enjoyed the game. What incentive do we have now? is it vanity? or maybe pressure to fit an ugly image that has prevailed in the wake of abandonment by the higher motivated figure heads that once lead us and dictated the community attitude.
This journal is not a memorial to a dead community. It's an appeal to restore the one element that brought us all together in the first place.
Bring back the competitive Public. Bring back Bio Public in it's old glory. The old maps, the old rules, the teamplay, the objective.
Let new players experience what ET truly means without being clanned, and let the old clanless players remember the legendary Public that requires no invitation in hearts of it's players.
To those who remember and those who have forgotten the spirit of the game.
